Christian Henriksen

Biography

Christian Henriksen (b. Fredrikstad, Norway, 1979) grew up in a musical family and has his musical roots in jazz, pop and folk music. As a youth, he played piano, tuba, and electric bass. The double bass became the natural weapon of choice, when his grandfather gave him an imported bass from China, with the intent that the grandson needed to «get a real job». His main teachers in double bass were Tor Ivar Andreassen, Knut Guettler, Dan Styffe and Janne Saksala. Christian has played with Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsche Sinfonieorchester Berlin, as well as all the major Norwegian orchestras as the Oslo and Bergen Philharmonic orchestras and visited festivals like Risør Chamber Music Festival and Valdres Sommersymfoni. From 2007 he is principal bass player in the orchestra of The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and from 2023 member of the collective of The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.
