Ragnhild Gudbrandsen

Biography

Ragnhild Margrethe Gudbrandsen is a renowned theatre performer. She received her training in Norway and at the Roy Hart Theatre. Gudbrandsen is a permanent member of the ensemble at Den Nationale Scene (DNS) in Bergen, and works extensively as a freelancer. She has worked at Riksteatret, Det Norske Teater, Det Vestnorske Teateret, The Bergen International Festival, BIT, Transiteatret, Roy Hart Theatre, and Ryazan Theater in Russia, London, Vienna, and Salzburg.

She is known for her roles in The Seagull and The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov, Andvake by Jon Fosse and All About My Mother by Pedro Almodóvar. Ragnhild Gudbrandsen has played all the female roles in Peer Gynt and Hedda Gabler. In 2013, she was awarded Pernillestatuetten for her outstanding performance in the monologue Lilli Valentin. Her interpretation of Martha in Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf was named Best Performance of the Year in 2019. Ragnhild Gudbrandsen has adapted Babette’s Feast for the stage, and has performed the monologue with great success on tours throughout Vestland county, Trondheim and Oslo. In 2022, she appeared at the Coronet Theatre in London with The Ibsen Company in When We Dead Awaken by Henrik Ibsen. She is an experienced reader with choirs and orchestras and has played major roles in well-known musicals. In 2024, she participated on the album Skråblikk på Haugtussa by Knut Vaage. Ragnhild has a broad experience from film and television productions, with producers such as HBO and Yellow Bird in the popular series Occupied and Beforeigners. In the autumn of 2024, she will play Alice in The Dance of Death by August Strindberg at DNS.
