Joachim Carr

Biografi

The Norwegian pianist Joachim Carr has over the last few years established himself as one of the most exciting musicians to emerge from Scandinavia.

He has won several international awards, including the First Prize as well as the Audience Award at the Edvard Grieg Piano Competition in 2014. The previous year he received the coup de coeur at the Concours Clara Haskil, and as a chamber musician he won the top prizes at the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition and the Boris Pergamenschikow Prize in Berlin.

As a soloist, he has appeared with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic, the Trondheim Symphony, the Arctic Philhar- monic and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Also a versatile chamber musician and recitalist, he was invited to perform at the Klavierfestival Ruhr, Zermatt Festival, Lofoten Chamber Festival, Bach Festival Moscow, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Salzburger Kammermusikfestival. At the closing concert of the Bergen International Festival in 2017, he had the honour of performing the Grieg concerto with the Bergen Phil and John Storgårds.

Born 1988 in Bergen, he studied at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo with Jiri Hlinka, and with Eldar Nebolsin at the Hochschule für Musik «Hanns Eisler» Berlin. He also received invaluable musical guidance from Ferenc Rados and Rita Wagner.

He has recorded for Naxos (Liszt, Cleve), Avi-music (live from Klavierfestival Ruhr) and Claves Records. Of his debut album, released in 2014 on Claves and featuring early works by Schumann, Brahms and Berg, Diapason wrote: “these performances place him amongst the most promising pianists of his generation”. The next solo album for the Swiss label, to be released in early 2022, presents a program of Bach/Busoni, Liszt, Franck and Messiaen; thematically it focuses on composers for whom faith and spiritual belief were inseperable from their musical creativity.
