Colin Currie

Biografi

Championing new music at the highest level, Colin Currie is the soloist of choice for many of today’s foremost composers and performs regularly with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors.

Highlights of the 2019/20 season include the world premiere of Bruno Mantovani’s Percussion Concerto with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Mikko Franck in April 2020. Another major season highlight is Currie’s conducting debut, conducting the Britten Sinfonia in the European premiere of Steve Reich’s Reich/Richter in the Barbican, London, in October 2019. The Colin Currie Group also return to the Southbank Centre for four sold-out performances of Drumming at the Hayward Gallery.

A dynamic and adventurous soloist, Currie’s unrivalled commitment to commissioning and creating new music was recognised by the Royal Philharmonic Society who awarded him the 2015 Instrumentalist Award. Currie has premiered works by a multitude of composers, and in the coming seasons will premiere new works by Bruno Mantovani, Steve Reich and Nicole Lizée among others. Currie is Artist in Association at London’s Southbank Centre and performs widely with his dynamic ensemble the Colin Currie Group, formed in 2006, specialising in the music of Steve Reich.

In October 2017 Currie launched Colin Currie Records, in conjunction with LSO Live, as a platform for his diverse projects, celebrating the extraordinary developments for percussion music over the past century.
